A Humanitarian Mission with Unmatched Precision
With smiles that never fade and meticulous attention to detail, over 1,300 nurses at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) provide specialized nursing care to both inpatients and outpatients across adult and pediatric departments. The nurse-to-patient ratio in intensive care units is 1:1, which is aligned with leading global hospitals and ensures the highest levels of safety and care for patients.
Nursing is one of the most noble professions in the healthcare sector, and oncology nursing in particular carries its own unique challenges. Cancer presents physical, emotional, and psychological challenges that KHCC's nursing team excels at addressing. Our nurses have exceptional, cancer-specific expertise and follow patients’ treatment plans from the point of diagnosis, ensuring the application of evidence-based practices that meet the patients' needs throughout their treatment. The nurses at KHCC work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, which includes oncologists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, nutritionists, and more.
With a passion that is applied daily, unmatched dedication, and unwavering commitment, KHCC’s nursing department has achieved several significant milestones over the years, including:
- Magnet Certification (2019 & 2024): KHCC was awarded the prestigious Magnet Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in 2019, which was renewed in 2024. KHCC is the first specialized cancer center outside the United States, and one of only ten hospitals outside the U.S. to hold this honor. The certification recognizes advanced nursing care according to global standards.
- Education and Professional Development Accredited Program: The Nursing Department obtained the "Education and Professional Development" accreditation from ANCC in 2013 and was re-accredited for the third time in 2021, demonstrating KHCC’s commitment to encouraging learning and fostering professional development based on leading practices and international standards among the nursing staff at KHCC.
- Oncology Nursing Residency Program: KHCC’s Oncology Nursing Residency Program (ON-RP) was accredited with distinction by ANCC in 2022. This prestigious accreditation is granted after ensuring that strict criteria are applied to achieve excellence in transitioning newly graduated nurses. KHCC is the first hospital in Jordan to be awarded this recognition, and the second in the Middle East. The ON-RP ensures that nurses are qualified experts in the domain of cancer care to optimize patient treatment, experiences, and outcomes.
- Shared Governance Accreditation: In 2020, the KHCC became the first hospital in the Middle East to receive a Shared Governance accreditation by the international Forum for Shared Governance, joining a community of only 32 nursing shared governance institutions around the globe.
The nursing team at the King Hussein Cancer Center serves as the beating heart of every department. They are a steadfast source of support in times of hardship, companions to patients and their families throughout the journey to recovery, and a beacon of reassurance during moments of fear. Each nurse works tirelessly, day and night, to leave a lasting, positive impact on the lives of patients and their families, with the hope that brighter days are ahead.
