US Ambassador and Mission Director of USAID Visit to KHCC
The King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center hosted Her Excellency the US Ambassador in Jordan, Alice G. Wells and the newly appointed Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Mr. Jim N. Barnhart on a visit to King Hussein Cancer Center accompanied by several delegates from the US Embassy and USAID. The delegates were welcomed by Dr. Asem Mansour, Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), along with a team from KHCF.
During the visit, the delegates were briefed about the status of KHCF and KHCC offering comprehensive cancer care treatment for patients from Jordan and the Arab world, and KHCF’s leading efforts in combatting cancer nationally and internationally. Moreover, Dr. Asem Mansour presented plans of the Center’s new expansion project. This project will enable KHCC to absorb the increasing demand for top quality cancer care in Jordan and the region, and will double the existing Center’s capacity to absorb the rising number of local and regional patients so that no patient is denied from the chance for a cure simply due to lack of space.
Moreover, the efforts of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP), which is led and directed by KHCF was discussed highlighting the fact that JBCP aims to raise public awareness on Breast Cancer and encourage women to conduct early detection tests which increase the chance of a cure by 90%. The delegates continued their tour around various significant departments at KHCC including the medical library.
The US Ambassador Alice G. Wells expressed her admiration for KHCC’s excellent services saying, “I am truly impressed with the advanced level of care and distinctive medical capabilities and services provided to patients by KHCC”
Mr. Jim N. Barnhart added: Mr Jim N. Barnhart added: "Without a doubt, the strong commitment of KHCF and KHCC to continuously provide comprehensive cancer care strongly drives us to continue exploring ways to support this noble cause. I greatly look forward to seeing their impressive progress in the future."
It is worth mentioning that in 2009, KHCF re-named its Medical Library in honor of USAID’s support of KHCC and KHCF. KHCC’s ‘USAID Medical Library’ is a vital, valuable and well-utilized resource for the medical community in the fight against cancer, and gives access to the largest medical online resources in the world, and is linked to the videoconferencing library of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
